Gaia is a better map app, but I use the Garmin Earthmate app, paired to my Inreach via Bluetooth, to save smartphone power (BT uses much less power than GPS on smartphones). The Inreach requires periodic GPS positioning for it’s breadcrumb trails anyways, might as well use that data for the phone too. I’ve grown to really like Gaia GPS, but the distances and elevation gains it gives me are way off. Ex. It spits out the Fimmvorduhals trail (just following the extablished route) as 16mi and 5kft elevation gain. AllTrails and CalTopo both have them about at 15mi and 3kft. Looking at the trip profile, the 3kft makes more sense. Gaia gps and outside+ are on sale 1/2 off for $30. I have a lot of trips planned this year and now would be the time to get it and practice really using it. There’s also video lessons on outside+, but I can’t see what kind of classes they have.
